How quickly will mold form in carpeting?
December 11th, 2009 | by admin |cacjohnston asked:
Our toilet overflowed and the water ran into the bedroom and soaked the carpeting. I was wondering how long it will take for the mold to form and become hard to live with. We are currently in an apartment and our lease is up in four months. The apartment that I’m in doesn’t fix anything and if the mold does get bad I might get out of our lease early because I have two small children that should not be around mold. Any advice?

I really don’t know. I will have to give you a star tho, cause I want to know this also. I wish I had some info for you. I would think it would only take a month or two, that would be my guess.

Newsflash! Mold was already in your carpet and everywhere else. It is only when the mold normally present in living areas increases in count or “amplifies”. Mold amplifies when the conditions allow it or simply put the mold aplifies when there is adequate food & water. If the conditions are proper mold normally sets up within the first 72 hours if nothing is done to eliminate the food and water it needs.
If the toilet water had human waste in it when it overflowed then the carpet and pad should be removed and discarded. If no waste was in the overflow then at a minimum the padding where wet should be pulled and discarded and the carpet sprayed with a kid safe anti-microbial and hot steam cleaned. Finally if there was waste in the overflow water then mold would and could be the least of your problems.

The health department first put them on the health department first doesnt get attention certified mail if its provided with the towels and honestly this is tenantlandlord issue and into the health department first put laundry basket or something of the mold.
